The current AANZ Executive Committee was elected in April, 2015. Comprised predominantly of young Afghans – most of who studied in New Zealand – the long-term goal of this young and dynamic team is to establish an efficient, transparent and accountable system for community service delivery, and in the process, become a model community organisation in New Zealand.

Dr. Mohammad Ibrahim Kazemi

Role: Chairperson
Education: MD in Curative Medicine from the Kabul Medical University, Post- Graduate Studies in Management and Public Health.
About: Dr. Kazemi is currently working as Liason Officer with the Refugee Quota Branch (RQB), Immigration New Zealand and as freelance interpreter and translator in Auckland. Dr. Kazemi served as a consultant for Democracy International Inc. (DI) and Creative Associates International. Dr.  Kazemi has over a decade of extensive experience in the fields of project management, healthcare, electoral administration & observation, and translation/interpreting working with international organizations and civil societies in different countries. Dr Kazemi’s vision is to assist AANZ at management level and help it become one of the most active ethnic New Zealand organizations. He aims to help AANZ identify the needs and demands of the Afghan community and establish and implement effective programs to achieve this in a fair and transparent manner. Kazemi wishes to help AANZ build and maintain a strong relationship with different governmental and non-governmental organizations in the country.

Hekmatullah Hekmat

Hekmatullah is currently working as a structural engineer and aims to become a Chartered Professional Engineer in NZ.
About: Hekmat’s vision is to help unite Afghans in NZ to promote Afghan cultural values and to establish AANZ as a platform to help Afghan New Zealanders adapt, assimilate and become active members of the wider New Zealand society and economy.

Abdul Sattar Ahmadzai

Role: Senior Advisor
Education: Bachelor Political Science and International Relations
About: Ahmadzai has significant experience in management, administration monitoring and journalism. His experience will bring fundamental reforms, transparency and accountability to AANZ. Being a senior member of AANZ, with his background and experience in community relations, cultural affairs and educational projects, Ahmadzai will advise and assist the younger EC members in all AANZ programs. Ahmadzai is multi-lingual and has excellent verbal and written skills in Pashto, Persian/Dari, Urdu, Arabic and English.
